Morrison, Taylor and Chesser Take Their First Wins of Season
(Peebles, Ohio) After suffering the disappointment of having Pepsi Night rained out last week Action returned to the high banks of Brushcreek Motorsports Compex on Saturday June 19. Representatives from Pepsi were on hand to hand out several door prizes to the fans in attendance.
As the hot summer day faded into night action heated up on the 1/3 mile speed plant. Manchester, Ohio’s Mark Morrison picked up the late model feature win. Winchester Ohio’s John “Weasel” Rhoades took home the modified feature win. West Union Ohio’s Bill Taylor claimed the crazy compact feature, becoming the first driver to knock Rex Smith Jr. off his throne this season. While Dave Jamison remained undefeated in the legend class and Aaron Chesser recovered from a fire under his car in hot laps to take his first bomber feature win this season.
Mark Morrison and Josh Tidwell brought the late model feature field to the green. At the drop of the green Tidwell and Morrison shot into turn one side by side followed closely by Dillion Huron and Mike Meyers. Tidwell gained the advantage out of turn four, pulling to a two car length lead. Tidwell flexed his muscle early stretching his lead out to seven car lengths over the first seven laps.
With Tidwell starting to work lapped traffic Morrison began to close the gap. By lap nine Morrison had closed up to the rear deck lid of front running Tidwell. On lap 11, down the backstretch Tidwell went high and Morrison took the low line to split the car of Ricky Neace to put him lap down. Tidwell’s right side tires got over the back stretch off the racing surface allowing Morrison to pull to a four car length lead. Once in front Morrison held on over the final laps to pick up his first feature win this season. Following Morrison across the line were Josh Tidwell, Dillion Huron, Mike Myers, and Joey Dunseith rounding out the top five.
In the victory lane interview Morrison said; “I love it this is great” “He (Tidwell) has more horse power then me I caught him in that lapped traffic and I said if I can just get around him and it stays green I think I can do it.” Morrison went on to say; “The surface of Tom’s race track has been beautiful for the last two years. I aint seen a track so smooth and it’s just to my liking right now tackiness and a little heavy I like it like that”
Weasel Rhoades and Mike Gross brought the modified feature field to the green. At the drop of the green Rhoades jumped out to the lead over Mike Gross, Clint Jamison, Brad White and Dave Jamison. Rhoades stretched his lead early while Mike Gross and Clint Jamison were in an intense battle for second. Jamison looked under Gross in turn four several times but couldn’t make it work. Meanwhile up front Rhoades held a comfortable lead. On the final lap Jamison made his move under Gross on the back stretch to take second. Gross crossed over and shot under Jamison in turn four while Rhoades was cruising to his second feature win this season. Jamison held off Gross at the line to claim second. Following Rhoades across the line were Clint Jamison, Mike Gross, Dave Jamison and Brad White rounding out the top five.
In the victory lane interview when asked about his second win of the season Rhoades said; “Well I’m really wanting that V-Rod, but I gotta thank Joey Sticker he’s worked his heart out trying to get us back going” He went on to say; “This baby here if you don’t race here you need help” When asked about his slow start this season Rhoades said “We kinda cruised last season. I guess we got behind. The boys are tough. Everybody is tough it’s just tough but I’m relying on Joey, he’s gonna make me look good.”
Bill Taylor and Paul Nicely brought the crazy compact feature field to the green. Taylor jumped out to the early lead over Nicely. An intense battle for third saw cars going three wide behind the lead duo. The action was slowed with a lap two caution when Tyler Smith got together with Gerald Campbell, and Jim Chandler. Smith was relegated to the tail when the caution was called on him.
On the restart, Taylor jumped out to the lead while the battle behind him was intense. By lap four Tyler Smith had came from the tail to battle Rex Smith Jr. and Jim Chandler for third. Coming out of turn two Tyler made a daring move squeezing between R. Smith and Chandler down the back stretch to claim third. Once in third T. Smith ran down Paul Nicely to claim second, but Taylor had built a six car length lead and held on over the final laps to pick up his first feature win this season. Following Taylor across the line were Tyler Smith, Rex Smith Jr., Jim Chandler, and Paul Nicely rounding out the top five.
Tom Partin and Dave Jamison brought the legend feature field to the green. Partin and Jamison shot into turn one side by side. Jamison gained the advantage down the back stretch. The action was slowed with a lap three caution for debris.
On the restart, Jamison jumped out to a slight lead over Partin and John Gutman. Over the next few laps Jamison and Partin began to pull away from Gutman, setting up a two car battle. Partin looked to the outside of Jamison out of turn four several times but could only get up to the door of Jamison’s car. With two to go Partin changed his line, looking under Jamison down the front stretch. Jamison pulled to a three car length lead out of turn two. Jamison held on over the final lap to pick up his fifth feature win of the season. Following Jamison across the line were Tom Partin John Gutman, Steven Partin, and Rob Pucket rounding out the top five.
Aaron Chesser and Josh Francis brought the bomber feature field to the green. Chesser jumped out to the early lead over Francis and Mike Heisler. Chesser stretched his lead early.
