After taking the Inaugural ‘Harold Hardgrove Memorial’ event last fall, the Bedford, IN native led all 40 laps to win $3,000 during the National Alls-Star Racing Association event at the Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY on Saturday Night May 22, 2010. Other event winners included Kelly Warren of Columbia, KY in the Open Wheel Modifieds, Keith Decker of Somerset, KY in the Super Dirt Stocks, Mike Todd of Glasgow, KY in the Chevettes and Cameron Marlar of Winfield, TN in the Front Wheel Drive division.
With nearly 100 cars in the pits on Saturday Night, it was sure to be a wild and crazy night but when the Checkered flag fell on the Late Model A-Main, Johnson, while driving the Gary Engle owned # 15 rolled into victory lane making the third different winner in five events this season at Lake Cumberland.
Two cautions slowed the main event, first on lap two when Victor Lee slowed on the track and the second yellow flag during the 40-lapper was for Bobby Wolter Jr. who slowed on the back-chute. Johnson was the class of the field during the Main, leading all laps to take the win. Justin Rattliff played second fiddle to Johnson from the third lap on as he could never get close enough to Johnson to make the pass. Aaron Ridley would come from his sixth place starting spot to challenge for second a couple of times but would have to hold on to third position for the current NASRA Point leader.
The Lake Cumberland Speedway will return to action next Saturday Night May 29th with a complete show for all divisions with $300 to win for the Front Wheel Drive division and regular show points for all divisions.
